CRITICAL ART ENSEMBLE
Founded 1987; based throughout the United States

Critical Art Ensemble (CAE) is an artists' collective that explores the intersections of art, technology, politics, and critical theory. Their projects take the form of interventionist actions, publications, films and videos, web-based initiatives, and instructional workshops. For twenty years, CAE has used these tactics to address biotechnology and biogenetics, the American health-care system, international pharmaceutical development, and advertising. Linked to the cultural phenomenon of "tactical media," defined as the critical use of old and new forms of media to address political issues, CAE's innovative model of protest creates platforms that provide information about government and corporate co-optation of global industries, therefore empowering the masses to reflect and react.
