On November 4, the Whitney hosted a special reunion to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of Youth Insights (YI), an after-school and summer program that connects New York City high school students to art and artists. The program was founded in 1997 and continues to grow. YI alumni, artists, and staff gathered to catch up and reminisce about the evolution of the program. The celebration included remarks from current and past Whitney Education staff, discussions led by YI Leaders in An Incomplete History of Protest: Selections from the Whitney’s Collection, 1940–2017, refreshments, and artmaking. Heather Maxson, Director of School, Youth, and Family Programs commented: “We were so excited to host a Youth Insights reunion as a way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the program. It was such a wonderful opportunity to reflect upon all the learning we have done together through the years!”
