Insider Focus: Demystifying Analogue Photography

Mon, Apr 16, 2018
7–8 pm

Floor 3, Theater

Insider Series Members in the Curate Your Own Program

During this talk, artist Elizabeth Moran will answer the question, “What is an analogue photograph?” by providing an overview of the medium’s physical and technological aspects. Works from the Whitney’s collection and from the exhibition Zoe Leonard: Survey will serve as case studies to introduce the materials and equipment of photography—from lenses to film and paper—as well as the processes of the medium—from shooting to developing film and making prints. The discussion will ultimately highlight the artistic decisions that confront a photographer at the various junctures in the process of making a photograph.

Elizabeth Moran (b. 1984) is an artist and educator based in New York. Recent solo exhibitions include Cuchifritos Gallery in New York and Black Crown Gallery in Oakland. Moran’s work has been featured in Harper’s, The New Yorker, The New York Times, British Journal of Photography, and Hotshoe among others.

Individual and Dual Insiders Series members are invited to this event. For Individual members, the invitation is for one; for Dual members, the invitation is for two. Registration instructions will be provided by email. To join or upgrade, call (212) 570-3641.
