Event Schedule

Dance Party with DJ Soul Nice
Floor One, Griffin Hall
7:15–9:45 pm

Join us for a dance party during this special holiday Member Night. New York–based DJ Soul Nice will be spinning a mix of new jams and classics that will keep you dancing all night!

Member Shopping Week Kick-off and Activation
Floor One, Whitney Shop
7–10 pm

Stop by the Shop for a special retail activation by Fredericks & Mae—the art and design team of Jolie Signorile and Gabriel Cohen. For one night only, members will have the opportunity to work alongside these designers to choose their own color combination of wire wraps for a truly unique and custom tassel. Inspired by talismans traditionally believed to have magic powers and bring good luck, the Fredericks & Mae tassel is a contemporary take on a centuries-old tradition and this tinsel and wire evolution of the form will make a wonderful gift to keep or give. And don’t forget – starting at Member Night, members receive 20% off all merchandise and 30% off Whitney publications, including exhibition catalogues.

Drawing Studio: Exploring the Figure
Floor Three, Susan and John Hess Family Theater
7:15–9:45 pm

Join artist and educator Mark Joshua Epstein for a drop-in, open-level figure drawing class. Explore ideas of proportion, positive and negative space, and foreground and background as well as the expressive potential of line, texture, and gesture while sketching from live models. Draw for a few minutes—or longer! First come, first served.

Mark Joshua Epstein is a visual artist and independent curator based in New York. Recent solo exhibitions include Vane Gallery in Newcastle, England and Biquini Wax in Mexico City.

Critical Looking: The Aesthetics and Politics of Display
Floor Three, Artspace
7:30, 8:15, 9 pm

This participatory seminar led by teaching fellow Aliza Shvarts will examine contemporary artistic practices that critique the aesthetics and politics of museum display. The discussion will explore the intersections between visibility, power, and representation within and beyond arts institutions, using works by Jimmie Durham, Fred Wilson, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, and others, as touchstones.
